10th Birthday Celebration, September 2014

What a wonderful day on Saturday, we had an eager gang of pre-party helpers and all hands on deck during the party: logs being sawn, faces painted, clay moulded and dried, fire tended, zip line non-stop,  stalls manned to sell cakes, cook books, books generously donated by Courtyard Bookshop in Cupar (a wonderful wee shop with a large choice of books for all ages, go visit!) and Steve the Drumfun man . . . and with all great community events ‘many hands make light work’! The yurt is looking great and our compost toilet an asset to all visitors.

The energy of the afternoon was truly celebratory, lots of children of all ages looking as if they were having fun, parents and visitors too. There was a wonderful turn out of ex Secret Gardeners from our 10 years; bunting being decorated like crazy, still more bunting to receive from children of the past that were unable to join us.

We raised £337 from the sale of the Cook Books; offering deep gratitude to Tansy, Amanda and Becca for putting the book together and getting a great sponsorship package from Mara Artisan Seaweeds, Pillars of Hercules, Bellfield Organics and Smoke Fired Whole Foods Shop. Donations from the cakes, Courtyard Books, face painting, refreshments at the fire were £250.95 – superb amount in an afternoon. We also raised £15 from bag sales.

Profits and donations from our celebration will be split between Cupar Foodbank and Breakdance Project Uganda.

Chinese New Year Celebration February 2013dragon dragon melt the snow

Many thanks to all the intrepid families who came out to the woods to celebrate the Chinese New Year - 80 adults and children – and bringing such delicious food contributions. Brian’s egg custard tarts were a particular favourite for those hanging out at the cake table, and the many pans of soup disappeared in a trice. Many people have commented on how much they enjoyed the evening and how spectacular the dragon was. Thanks go to Carmen for having the dragon contact and courage to get it actually in the woods. It was an amazing centre piece for our celebration. Thanks also to Rehema and Marie for their great contribution to make the evening happen so joyfully.

Open Day, May 2012

Blessed with sunshine for our Open Day, we welcomed a wonderful turnout of past, present and future families, together with old and new friends with no children who simply came for the buzz! All seemed very happy; there was much sharing and chatting about the challenge of 3 year olds walking up the hill, toileting, routines, what goes on in the woods, the educational benefits...

And in amongst all of this we had Carmen creating an archway, Tom and Sue making a new dragons' den, Sharon and Marie tackling technical glitches with the film, Nicole and Heather reaping the benefits of their hard pre-planning, Ross driving people to the woods, Vivienne getting cold in the shade with lots of cakes and flapjacks, Rob getting the refreshments out to the punters, Susie organising bunting decorating for the yurt, Paula C. storytelling, Gerry being our Julie Andrews with guitar and song, Cathy with weaving in the trees, Paula M. and Alison creating fire and popcorn with the older children - children everywhere! Much gratitude to all of these people, plus all the others who helped, and to all who came out to play and made the afternoon what it was.

...And the baking? We raised £143.03 for the Breakdance Project Uganda. A fantastic amount of money - and superb cakes! Thank you. Another wonderful Secret Garden day...

Easter fun, building and digging, April 2012

Egg rolling and egg hunting fun was had at the yurt on Easter Day. Lots of beautifully decorated eggs and bright seeking eyes for chocolate ones hidden in the springtime foliage. A big thank you to all who helped on the day - the wheelbarrow pushers, who shifted a trailerload of compost up the steep track - and Susanne, Drew and Tom, for putting together the fantastic raised bed so efficiently and with (what looked like) remarkable ease! Planting fun ahead - the children are already delving in, excited by this new structure in their garden space.

Into the Middle of Nowhere Premiere

The premiere of "Into the Middle of Nowhere" at the DCA on Saturday 21st August, 2010, was a great success with over 150 attending. We’d like to offer enormous gratitude to Anna Ewert for creating this beautiful film for us, and Sabine for being out as the support in all weathers. Their presence and skills are unsurpassed. The overall amount raised by donation and sale of bags was just over £350. This was a fantastic outcome from the event and is a much appreciated contribution to support our work in woods.

A very big thank you to those who helped to organise such a lovely event, and to all those who came along and supported us on the day!
