We regularly run workshops, visits and events throughout the year and welcome teaching professionals seeking training/CPD, practitioners working with children, students and other interested parties. Below is a list of our 2019 calendar however please get in touch if you have any additional training requests or bespoke requirements – we’d be happy to chat to you.

FEBRUARY

Wednesday 13th February – Visitor Session – 1245 till 1515 – £35 per participant.

  • New to 2019! We are excited to be offering these short visit sessions for interested parties. Visits include a welcome and short introduction to the nursery, time observing the children playing in the woods, a tour of the site and a Q&A session to finish. If you want to delve deep into the SG ethos and practice then the ‘In the Woods’ Workshop will be for you but if you would like a short exploration of the site and a brief introduction into how we operate, then perhaps the visitor session might be what you are looking for.

Tuesday 26th February – Hand in Hand Workshop – 1800 – 2100 – £35 per participant 

  • The Connection Framework – Listening to Children’s Feelings. This session will be an introduction to Hand in Hand’s connection framework as a basis for a transformative approach to childcare. We will look at the importance of listening to children’s feelings and learn how to do this in practice. We will look at some of the practical ways that this approach can be immediately effective in building better relationships and overcoming common challenges in childcare settings. MARCH

Monday 18th March – In the Woods Workshop – 0930 till 1530 – £100 per participant.

APRIL

Tuesday 2nd April – Hand in Hand Workshop – 1800 – 2100 – £35 per participant 

  • Dealing with Aggressive Behaviour – connection, play and limits. Through the connection framework of Hand in Hand, we will deepen our understanding of aggressive behaviour, and will look at how to support a child who is behaving aggressively whilst keeping others safe. We will discuss how to set limits warmly and effectively and how to use listening tools to create a safe environment for the release of difficult emotions, helping to bring an aggressive child back in to balance. More details of the Hand in Hand approach can be found here.

MAY

Tuesday 28th May – Hand in Hand Workshop – 1800 – 2100 – £35 per participant 

  • Sharing and Cooperation. When all is well in their world, children love to share, and are naturally cooperative. In this workshop we will explore how connection builds cooperation and how we can restore broken connection and build cooperation through listening and play. We will look at a connection based strategy for sharing, which empowers children and helps ease the common tensions around sharing. More details of the Hand in Hand approach can be found here.

JULY

AUGUST

Tuesday 20th August – Hand in Hand Workshop – 1800 – 2100 – £35 per participant 

  • Working with Separation Anxiety. In this session we will explore how to work through children’s separation difficulties using the Hand in Hand listening approach, and see how this can have a positive impact on the children’s levels of confidence and wellbeing. You’ll hear about how we’ve used this approach successfully at the Secret Garden: we love how the Hand in Hand approach to separation upsets can turn something difficult into something positive. SEPTEMBER

OCTOBER

Tuesday 29th October – Hand in Hand Workshop – 1800 – 2100 – £35 per participant 

  • Empowering Children through Play. We will explore using play as a listening tool and intervention to help children work through their blocks and fears and to feel more powerful (whilst keeping everyone in the group safe). We will also take a look at some potentially edgy types of play, such as weapon play, and explore some of the conditions for play to be healthful and growthful for children. We’ll cover when and how it can be helpful to intervene in children’s play to promote healing and learning. More details of the Hand in Hand approach can be found here.
